Why Do We Not Discuss Sexual Health Openly In India?

It is a tricky question because there is no concrete reason behind it. But I will still try to paint the picture that I find correct.

There is no specific reason behind it, and I will have you look at the situation through my lens. Sit tight and give me your 5 to 6 minutes of patience so that I can communicate to you about the sexual health and hygiene of women and men in our country.

Why Not Discuss Sexual Health?

If we wish to talk about sexual health, then we will have to include the subject of sex. A topic that is considered to be vulgar and shameful. The nudity related to the subject makes it inappropriate to talk about it.

Some articles on the internet also suggest that parents and teachers do not talk about it because it may send a message to the kids that it is okay to have sex.

But I think it makes the subject more intriguing, and kids start their journey for the answers.

If there is parents’ or teachers’ involvement in the subject, I believe kids will have some guidance on their journey to learn about one of the critical parts of their lives. Hopefully, they will make fewer mistakes during their course.

Sex Education and Schools

Secondly, schools should include sex education in their education course. However, schools also do not promote talking on the subject.

When given lectures on menstruation, boys are not made a part of it which fails the sensitisation of the male gender on the topic. Besides, female children are also rarely given a good lecture on it.

And there is no conversation over other aspects like sex, consent, precautions, and much more related to the topic. Lack of the said knowledge leads the kids to make wrong decisions. In addition to that, the secrecy on the subject makes it mysterious, and we know how fascinating mysteries are to kids or even us.

I think we can still find an excellent way to communicate on this subject as it is one of the most critical aspects of everybody’s lives. Good communication on the topic will help the kids to make informed decisions about their sex life and sexual choices.

Importance of Sexual Health

After food and water, reproduction is our third need defined by the law of nature. If we can talk about the first two topics openly and write slogans on the same, why can’t we find a sophisticated way to talk about the latter?
Sex and reproduction are not the only subjects associated with sexual health, but hygiene is also neglected the same way. It is the most crucial aspect of sexual health as it helps people, especially women, stay away from multiple diseases.
While we are on the subject, sexual health also means menstruation for women. Without proper guidance and care, women cannot take the best course of action related to their menstrual health issues.
Early age and unwanted pregnancies are also the consequences of lack of sex education in the kids. I do not have to spell it that precautions are one of the main factors for having sex. If people do not know everything about it, they will end up in this messy situation.
Such a situation takes a toll on their bodies, minds, and life experiences.

Conclusion

To save these kids from making severe mistakes in their lives, a proper sex education course in the schools is vital. If teachers could not arrange that for your kids, I suggest you take charge and teach your kids on your own. So that when they become adults, they make better decisions and pass this knowledge further in the best way.
I hope you got an answer to the question in your mind. Please share this article with your friends and family members if you like this article.
