Respect strengthens the connection between people in a relationship. We can say that a successful relationship is one in which both parties respect each other. Respect begins within the self. We must like and respect ourselves before we can truly respect others.
When we respect ourselves we also treat others with respect and will receive the same respect in return. When we give respect to someone we listen to what they say and do not blame them for our issues. If you want to give value to any person it must also contain the ingredient of respect no matter what our relationship with them maybe. With respect, you are valued as a person of dignity; your best interest is always taken at heart. Consider respect, love is not all you or others need.
Everyone wishes to be in a healthy relationship with the right person by their side. Everyone deserves to be in a healthy relationship and there is never an excuse for abuse. Unlike an unhealthy relationship which is based on power and control, a healthy relationship demand trust, love, support, fairness/equality good communication, separate identifies and above all respect. In a relationship respect means that each person values the other and understands and would never challenge the other people’s boundaries. Unhealthy relationship results in lack of desires as well.
Respect goes beyond primary relationships. It extends to our family, friends, and partners as well. Both of you will be sensitive to each other’s feelings, when there is respect. Respecting also means that you would not do anything to hurt their feelings, you are always putting them in your equation, and you will have them in your consideration. When you truly respect each other you will not cross the boundaries that are always put up in a relationship. You should not do things that will hurt your partner and thus helps to build up trust between the two of you.
Respect also means that you know your partner has different opinions and experiences from you and that's ok. Showing respect may sound complicated but it's not so. It only involves listening to your partner and being kind to them. One of the ways to show respect to your partner is listening to your partner and trying to understand their perspective. Even if you disagree with your partner's choice, try to respect your partner's views and opinions. Don't try to influence them to change their mind about things that are important to them.
You can declare your respect towards the other person in front of others. You can tell your partner that you are proud of him or her. Be quick to offer forgiveness to them. Try to apologies as soon as possible, when you make an unskillful choice. Try to support your partner's choices. By simply following some of these ways you can show respect.
